A SRX400 for Sale on norwich gumtree.com http://norwich.gumtree.com/norwich/80/48761380.html
Yamaha SRX400 gey import owned by my wife from passing her test in July 2001,until she started riding a bigger bike and then couldn't be parted from it so it was stored in the garage. Try to find on on ebay or bike-trader
However, motherhood has taken over and her bikes are giving way to the dreaded MPV lifestyle.. the bike's been SORN and MOT less since 2006 and then has had the following to prep it for for sale in addition to a thorough clean and service during August 2009:
**BIKE PASSED MOT 26/1/09 WITH NO ADVISORY'S **
New Varta [BMW spec] battery, Oil and filter, New chain and sprocket set, new rear brake pads, brake fluid replaced and bled through front and rear. New headlamp bulb, new front brake lever as previous one that came with the bike didn't have the ball end and we didn't bother to change it until now. Body work has some wear and tear but is pretty neat still barring 2 cracks near seat/tail unit which are probably from panniers being carried and are an easy 'plastic weld' repair - again this wasn't a huge problem as my wife never used saddle bags. The bike was bought from a friend of ours for £1250 on 02/07/2001 as a present to my wife on completion of her test. It has covered under 2,000 miles during our ownership as we have other bikes and my wife only rides in nice weather.
It has correct engine and frame numbers which are Experion checked, also there is no finance or HPI on it. It was imported locally we understand by one of the dealers at Harleston as the reg numerals are sequential with another japanese import I own. The previous owner had it from 28/02/1999 [ it was shown as imported around 01/03/1999 ]. We have all the MOT's and Tax discs and the kilometre 'mileage' is correct [27931 kms or about 17,000 miles]. So, a low mileage, easy to ride little bike that's had a regular home servicing and a few sunny days out.
Tyres are fine as it only did 109 kilometres 70 miles between the 2005-2006 MOT's and as it is so light the wear is minimal with 33bhp. The petrol tank has had a DIY repair at some stage as these were prone to rusting through in the lower corners according to the SRX Owner's Club site [brilliant info and really enthusiastic about his cracking wee motor-cycle]. The tank has NEVER leaked since we've had it so it must have been done well even if the paint is a bit basic around the edge. The fork action is soft but the oil seals seem fine on a quick ten mile test this week - I'm considerably bigger than my wife and use a 1200 Bandit - but it's a scream to ride and does about 60mpg. This is the later model Mark 4 3VN which is mono-shock not twin shock and has more flowing body-work. The twin shockers are older but still fetch up to £1000+
If kept I would replace the front fork oil and seals as a matter of course, uprate the fork-oil to 20w [about £30 all in] and possibly invest in 'progressive' springs which are a a popular modifcation. My wife is about 5ft6, 10 stone and she is happy with the handling but I'm over 6 ft and 13.5 stone. It's a featherweight to flick around, holds 70mph happily and is quite low at the seat if you're not that long in the leg. The exhaust is standard, quiet and has stainless downpipes - all of which is in super condition. Parts from www.wemoto.com are cheap and easy to get and common with many other Yamahas.
Please feel free to email any questions. This bike should easily pass an Mot, but we are not in a position to afford to put it back on the road, so after purchase, a trailer will be required unless you want to take your chances. A short test ride nearby is permissable as it's quiet where we live but I will require a full cash sum left as deposit and proof of licence, insurance and so on. If you drop or damage it then you will have bought it! It is advertised elsewhere as well. Payment will be cash on collection.
**BIKE PASSED MOT 26/1/09 NO ADVISORY'S **
Questions Answered: Body-work damage is a crack to the left side near the seat and is quite easy to hot weld. Second point is where the right hand side panel bolts into the frame at the tail and again is hot-weldable. The paint is blistered on the top of the tail unit but that small panel could easily re-touched - otherwise as stated there are minor cosmetic imperfections, rust marks, alloy dulling etc around the bike and these are normal for a bike of this age. The bike has no mirrors but these are cheap to buy. The front tyre has lots of life, the rear would need replacing within 12 months if ridden a lot but it passed the last MOT as it is now and has done around ONLY 70 MILES since then. It starts and runs beautifully and is quite soft in it's power delivery so it's easy for a beginner coming from a 125cc bike to ride as my wife would attest. There is no 33bhp certificate because it is the standard power [officially 30.8bhp] output of this engine [shared with the XT350 trail bike i'm told] for more specs see:
www.srx400.co.uk and absolutely LOADS of fan stuff on You-tube CHECK IT OUT I would love to keep this bike and have another project but the MPV has to be paid for..........
